Who we are

ITG is a non-profit R&D center established in 1991 as a private foundation. ITG is a technological center of reference at regional and national level, with a constant international projection. In Spain, it is recognized as an OTRI-Research Results Transfer Office (registration number 153) and as a National Technology Center (registration number 115), and is a member, among others, of the Governing Council of FEDIT – Spanish Federation of Innovation and Technology Entities, which it currently chairs. Its staff combines scientific knowledge with extensive business experience, in order to address the industrial technological demand from an integral perspective. Its main areas of activity are “Sensorics”, “ICT”, “Unmanned aerial systems (UAS)”, “Energy efficiency”, “Construction and sustainability” and “Efficient water management”. The center has more than 15 years of experience in the development of monitoring and control systems based on sensors and convergent with the IoT approach, which has favored in the last 5 years its specialization and positioning as a reference in the UAS sector.

Main lines of research

ITG’s UAS technical team brings an aggregate experience of more than 20 years in various technological areas, from automatic flight systems, ground control software or unmanned air traffic management (UTM), through detection and collision avoidance systems based on artificial vision. In recent years, ITG has established itself as a reference center in R&D&I applied to the field of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or Urban Air Mobility (UAM), highlighting its experience and scientific-technological capacity in key areas such as:

  • Automation

Development of precision navigation and landing, autonomous power charging and management, payload integration and advanced ground command and control (GCS) software. We also develop systems to support ground operations (DroneSafeBox® robotic hangar) and software for integrated management of UAS operations: command and control through GCS application (DroneSuite® solution).

  • Aerial robotics

Development of optimized AI for on-board execution in drones to increase safety in UAS operations by performing maneuvers autonomously (autonomous flight, visual navigation), improving situational awareness (obstacle detection and avoidance) and intelligent decision making in emergency situations (GPS-free navigation, autonomous emergency landings).

  • Drone traffic control

Development of a proprietary UTM tool, together with NTT Data, which allows the integration of drones in airspace through the provision of U-space services, as well as specific U-space services. Contribution to the Regulatory Framework/Standardization (EASA, EUROCAE, ASTM, AESA…), development and participation in large Urban Air Mobility demonstrators.

  • Embedded systems for IoT

Development of Microelectronics (HW/FW) control and Interfaces for integration of heterogeneous sensors; Dataloggers, remote and real-time communication interfaces; Interoperability with IoT through Web Services; Management and optimization of energy sources. We are also experts in digitization (GIS Systems, IT Infrastructure, Big Data and Cloud, Data Analytics Business Intelligence, IIoT Platform, Simulation of process/machine environments, LIDAR and multispectral, Cybersecurity) and Artificial Intelligence.

  • Functional safety and aeronautical certifications

Obtaining permits and certificates in the specific (SORA, manuals) and certified (ARP-4754A, certification bases) categories, and in the development of electronic systems and software in accordance with the functional safety standards of the aeronautical sector, both for on-board systems (DO-178, DO-254), ground and traffic management systems (DO-278, ED-153) and aeronautical databases (ED-76).

Main R&D&I projects

ITG has positioned itself in recent years as a technological center of reference in the UAS ecosystem, participating in national and international projects with some of the leading companies in the sector.
