Who we are

Gradiant is an ICT technology center that aims to improve the competitiveness of companies by transferring knowledge and technologies in the fields of connectivity, intelligence and security. With more than 120 professionals and 14 patents, Gradiant has developed more than 340 different R&D&I projects, becoming one of the main drivers of innovation in Galicia. In 2021, Gradiant’s turnover reached €6 million, working with more than 341 customers in 30 countries in 13 years.
Gradiant is backed by a board of trustees that includes representatives of the three Galician universities (Vigo, Santiago and A Coruña) and seven companies in the telecommunications sector: Altia, Arteixo Telecom, Egatel, Indra, Plexus, R, Telefónica, Televés; and the business association INEO, which represents most of the Galician ICT companies.
Commitment to quality has been a constant from the beginning. Nine months after starting the activity, Gradiant obtained the Quality Management UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008; and a year later, it obtained the UNE 166002 R+D+i Management Systems. In 2011, Gradiant was included in the demanding state registry of Technological Innovation Centers (CIT). Since 2018, Gradiant has been certified in Information Security Management Systems UNE-EN ISO/IEC 27001.
After twelve years of activity, Gradiant is positioned as a technology partner of the industry, oriented to its needs in the field of ICT, providing its national and international experience in technologies for security and privacy; video processing; Internet of Things; data analysis; and advanced communications systems.

Main lines of research

Gradiant focuses its lines of activity on connectivity, developing communications and navigation technologies; intelligence, developing algorithms to extract useful information from both images and text; and cybersecurity, developing software applied to privacy and encryption.

  • Communications systems

Line specialized in the conception, design and development of communication and navigation systems. Including definition of technical requirements, waveform design, implementation on flexible platforms and validation.

  • Video processing

Line specialized in the development of video analysis software based on artificial intelligence for surveillance, inspection, monitoring, etc. Experience using cameras in both visible and thermal spectrum, and SW compatible with server deployment and embedded platforms.

  • Cybersecurity

Specialized line in the detection and analysis of network vulnerabilities, in the deployment of secure systems
(DevSecOps); as well as attribute-based encryption.

Main R&D&I projects

Gradiant is a strategic partner of the aerospace industry for the development of new products or services.

  • VDES Testing

Project for the European Space Agency (ESA) whose main objective is to perform a downlink measurement campaign of the VDE-SAT component of the VDES standard and to verify that the VHF band signal conditions transmitted by the NORSAT-2 satellite are adequate and operational to offer a real service.

  • Sense UAV

Vision-based detect-and-avoid system for low SWaP UAVs to enable beyond line-of-sight (BVLOS) missions.

  • EGIDA

ÉGIDA is the first and only national network of security and privacy technologies formed by technology centers of excellence. The network will approach research from 4 areas: applied cryptography, digital identity and privacy, security in distributed systems and development of secure information systems.

  • SKYWAY

The SKYWAY R&D program has been proposed and led by Boeing Research & Technology Europe (BR&TE) in response to the pre-commercial public procurement call for a joint R&D program in Traffic Management and Safety for Shared Airspace UAVs of the Civil UAVs Initiative Phase Solutions – Air. Its main objective is to design, prototype and test in representative environments a series of advanced technological solutions to the most relevant contingencies in the operation of UAVs in shared airspace.

Awards and recognitions

  • Drone vs Bird
International competition for the correct detection and identification of drones against other objects in airspace. Gradiant wins first prize in 2020.

Services offered

  • Counter UAS

Drone detection, identification and neutralization system based on radio frequency and intelligent video analysis.

  • Design and development of communication systems

Implementation of a communications standard, design and implementation of a proprietary system based on functional requirements or spectral monitoring.

  • Video processing software

Development of intelligent video processing software based on artificial intelligence to provide surveillance cameras with superior intelligence.
